Our Services
African Sinakho Arts offers the following services to the community:
- Professional Training and Skills Development in Performing Arts – We conduct auditions to identify the participants of our skills development program annually. These participants receive training in music, dance and acting.
- Skills Transfer in Disability Musical Theatre – We create original productions which are staged in different theatre venues in South Africa by the participants of our skills development programme. During the making and staging of our productions the participants benefit skills transfer on scriptwriting, song writing, choreography and theatre directing.
- Edutainment through theatre productions, music and dance performances – Our productions address social ills and render disability awareness.
- Awareness Campaign – We run awareness campaigns on HIV AIDS, Xenophobia, Gender based violence and Femicide for artists, schools and institutions for people with disabilities in the KZN Province.
- Work Opportunities Through Stage Performances – Participants receive stipends for attending our training program and performance fees for stage performances.
- Disability Awareness Consultancy – We consult for government and private sector on issues of disability awareness.
- Job Placements for Artists – Exceptional participants are referred to television casting agencies and recording companies for further development and exposure.
- Beadwork Craft Program – The participants in this program receive skills training in beadwork craft and the products are used as costumes for our productions and the rest is sold to the general public to contribute to the sustainability of the organisation. The participants are also taught entrepreneurship skills in order to utilise their craft to earn a living when they exit the program.
Our Objectives:
- To enable people with disabilities to maximise their functional abilities through performing arts.
- To introduce the performing arts as means of poverty alleviation to the women, youth and disabled people of South Africa who participate in our productions.
- To promote social cohesion and give voice to the marginalised groups through edutainment.
- To promote participation of youth, women and people with disabilities in the economic growth of the country through visual arts/beadwork in order to eliminate dependency on social grants.
